Apia, Samoa – July 26, 2024 – Today marked the conclusion of a rigorous two-week Defensive Driving Training program designed for Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services (SPPCS) officers. The training aimed to enhance the skills of police vehicle and bus operators. Ten male officers successfully completed the program, with four of them now qualified to operate Samoa Police buses.
Assistant Commissioner Leausalilo Norman Meni delivered an inspiring keynote speech at the graduation ceremony, congratulating the officers on their achievement. He emphasized the importance of such training opportunities for SPPCS officers, noting that they are vital for the development and effectiveness of the force.
Corporal Palepa Ioane, the driving instructor, provided insights and results from the training. She highlighted the significant improvements in the officers’ driving skills and their ability to handle various challenging scenarios.
Representing the graduates, Corporal Kenneth Komiti expressed gratitude towards the instructors and the SPPCS leadership. He thanked the instructors for their dedication and the valuable knowledge imparted during the training.
The Defensive Driving Training is part of SPPCS’s ongoing efforts to equip and enable officers to operate police vehicles effectively. It is also a crucial preparation step for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), ensuring that the force is ready to provide the highest level of service and security during the event.
The ceremony also included a poignant moment of silence to honor the memory of Detective Sergeant Peniamina Perite, a fallen officer whose dedication and service to the SPPCS will always be remembered.
