Thursday, 30 August 2024 – Thirteen members of the Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services (SPPCS) successfully completed their two-week Defensive Driving Course today. The training included both theoretical and practical components aimed at enhancing the driving skills of officers, preparing them for daily duties as well as for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
The course was structured to ensure officers are equipped with advanced driving techniques that prioritize safety, efficient vehicle handling, and quick response in critical situations. These skills are particularly relevant in the lead-up to CHOGM, where maintaining security and facilitating transportation for high-profile delegates will be essential.
During the closing ceremony, Superintendent Laufili Malu Talo acknowledged the efforts of the participants and highlighted the importance of the training in strengthening operational capabilities within the SPPCS. The Superintendent emphasized that the course is part of ongoing efforts to raise professional standards and improve safety for both officers and the public.
Corporal Danny Maauga, one of the Defensive Driving instructors, provided feedback on the course, noting the progress made by the participants. He emphasized the significance of the practical sessions in improving their ability to handle stressful driving situations with control and precision, key attributes for officers in the field.
This Defensive Driving Course is part of the continuous professional development of SPPCS personnel, aimed at improving their readiness for high-pressure scenarios. As the CHOGM event approaches, the successful completion of this course highlights the SPPCS’s commitment to ensuring high standards of service and safety.
