Wednesday, 7th August 2024 – Today, 20 officers of the Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services (SPPCS) successfully concluded their Close Personal Protection (CPP) Driving Training. This specialized training program was designed to equip these officers with advanced CPP driving skills, ensuring they are fully prepared for their crucial roles during the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
The CPP Driving Training included comprehensive instruction on various protective driving maneuvers, emphasizing the importance of precision, safety, and rapid response in high-stakes scenarios. The intensive course was led by experienced CPP instructors who imparted essential techniques and strategies to enhance the officers’ capabilities.
A short ceremony was conducted to mark the completion of this training. Detective Inspector Junior Va’alotu Fruean opened the event with a prayer, setting a solemn and respectful tone for the proceedings.
Senior Sergeant Junior Afereti, one of the CPP instructors, provided insightful feedback and a thorough overview of the training process. He commended the officers for their dedication, resilience, and the significant progress they made throughout the course. He highlighted the importance of continuous learning and practice to maintain and enhance their newly acquired skills.
Deputy Commissioner Papali’i Monalisa Tia’i-Keti delivered a congratulatory address, emphasizing the critical role these officers will play during CHOGM. She acknowledged their hard work and dedication, underscoring the importance of their responsibility in ensuring the safe and secure transport of CHOGM guests and dignitaries. “The safety of our esteemed guests is in your hands,” she remarked. “You carry a tremendous responsibility, and I have full confidence in your abilities to uphold the highest standards of security and professionalism.”
Before the ceremony concluded, each officer was presented with a certificate of completion, symbolizing their successful mastery of the CPP driving techniques. This certification not only marks the end of their training but also signifies their readiness to take on the significant responsibilities that lie ahead during CHOGM.
