As per section 9A of the Arms Ordinance 1960, the Ministry of Police, Prisons and Corrections is declaring a Firearm Amnesty for a period of 3 months from 1 October – 31 December 2020.
The amnesty period provides an opportunity to any person who has in their possession any firearm(s), ammunition(s), explosive(s) or unlawful weapon(s) to be handed in to any Police Station with no questions asked and free of prosecution.
The Ministry appeals to the village councils for your support to encourage village members to use this opportunity to surrender these firearm(s), ammunition(s), explosive(s) or unlawful weapon(s) to Police or call in our Tactical Operations Section who will safely come and remove it from your communities. All items returned will be recorded and a receipt will be issued together with a $100 shopping voucher to use at one of the supermarkets in town.
This is also a reminder that any call for service that the Police will attend and find these items in your possession, it will not be covered under the Amnesty programme and as such, you will be subject to prosecution.
