Apia, Samoa – May 1st, 2024 – Earlier today, a significant milestone in Samoa’s law enforcement and public health efforts was achieved with the official launch of the Breath Analysis Calibration Capability at the Scientific Research of Samoa (SROS). This groundbreaking ceremony, graced by esteemed dignitaries and officials, marks a pivotal moment in Samoa’s pursuit of justice and community well-being.
Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo of the Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services (SPPCS), alongside members of the SPPCS Executive and Senior Management, joined hands with Australian High Commissioner H.E Will Robinson, Australian Federal Police (AFP) Assistant Commissioner Nigel Ryan APM, and AFP members, along with Hon. La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, in commemorating this auspicious occasion.
H.E Will Robinson, in his remarks, emphasized the significance of the partnership between Samoa and Australia in combating drug-related crimes and addressing alcohol-related issues. He reiterated Australia’s steadfast commitment to supporting Samoa in addressing challenges related to substance abuse through collaborative endeavors.
The Breath Analysis Calibration Capability, made possible through the joint efforts and support of both nations, signifies a critical advancement in Samoa’s forensic and public health capabilities. These state-of-the-art equipment will play a pivotal role in enhancing the efficacy of Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services, particularly in the detection and management of narcotics and alcohol-related cases within Samoa.
