On the 11th August, 2023 the Motorcyclist & Defensive Driving Instructors Training Course culminated with 24 Samoa Police officers graduating.
The course was a collaboration between Samoa Police, Prisons and Correction Service (SPCCS), and the Fiji Police Force; with assistance from the Pacific Community Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) and the Australian Federal Police Service.
The graduation was attended by Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew of the Fiji Police Force, Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo of the Samoa Police, families and friends of the graduates.
Both Commissioners reiterated the significance of the course as it was;
1- First time such an exchange between law enforcement agencies under the PCLEC program has occurred and a true reflection of the motto “By the Pacific for the Pacific”.
2- Graduates included the first female riders for the Samoan Police
Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo expressed his gratitude to the Government of Fiji
and the Fiji Police Force Acting Commissioner for accepting the request to provide trainers.
“I acknowledge with much appreciation your presence here Acting Commissioner Chew for accepting our request for allowing your instructors to share their expertise in conducting this very invaluable training in preparation for the upcoming CHOGM meeting”, said Auapa’au.
The Fiji Police Force’s Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew delivered the keynote address,
where he expressed the Fiji Police Force’s appreciation for the hospitality of the government
of Samoa and the SPPCS.
“Fiji is immensely proud and honoured to have been provided the opportunity to showcase the spirit of partnership defined under the Pacific Island Chiefs of Police (PICP) mission Uniting Pacific Leadership to Build Highly Capable Policing”.
Juki Fong Chew concluded his address by assuring Commissioner Auapa’au and SPPCS that the Fiji Police Force will continue its support for Samoa preparation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
The course and the exchange between Samoa Police and Fiji Police Force was a success, and it is a catalyst for future cooperation.
